Rockford’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is elated to announce an upcoming workshop in collaboration with the Rockford Community Investment Fund (RCIF). This educational session is designed to empower small businesses and individuals looking to contribute to the revival of Rockford's residential real estate. The illustrious Tom Sandquist, Executive Director of the RCIF, will be the presenter for this highly informative workshop​​.

About the Workshop

The Rockford Community Investment Fund (RCIF) has been instrumental in providing financing to small businesses involved in the rehabilitation of homes in Rockford, particularly in low and moderate-income neighborhoods. Tom Sandquist will shed light on various aspects of the RCIF including its history, the loan program, and the requirements to qualify for financing.

Key topics to be covered include:

  • The background and history of the RCIF
  • The minimum requirements for a project to qualify for financing
  • The minimum requirements for a borrower to qualify for financing
  • Loan terms, including the maximum loan amounts, length of the loan term, and interest rate
  • Success stories of how the RCIF has changed lives and revitalized neighborhoods​1​.

Note: The maximum loan limit is $100,000.

Meet the Presenter: Tom Sandquist

Tom Sandquist, a Rockford local, is a man of great repute and experience. He holds degrees from Rockford University and the University of Illinois College of Law. With 33 years of legal practice at the Rockford law firm WilliamsMcCarthy LLP, Tom possesses a wealth of knowledge and expertise. In January 2022, he took up the mantle as Executive Director of RCIF, which recently received certification as a Community Development Financial Institution by the U.S. Department of Treasury. Under Tom’s leadership, RCIF has already financed the rehabilitation of more than 30 dilapidated homes in Rockford's low and moderate-income neighborhoods​.
